This is the way it started

During a travel in the European Union we were surprised by the number of trucks with idle engine to keep the cargo cold or the drivers cabin warm. There was obviously an urgent need for a device that could deliver heat and electricity. Together we have long experience in thermodynamics and computer calculations. The solution that we found gave diesel efficiences at 1/10 of the normal diesel peak pressure. A new thermodynamic cycle was born. The first reaction is always: This is too good to be true. But everybody with some classical thermodynamic knowledge can easily confirm the calculations. This image describes all the details and all the formulas of the Dulob Vatne Engine thermodynamics.

One micro-CHP unit in every house

can replace oil and coal with natural gas and biogas. (CHP= Combined Heat and Power Unit) Entire countries can reduce the fossil fuel consumption intended for heat and electricity by 50% and make heat and electricity cheaper for the consumers. At the same time carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by up to 80% when natural gas is used. By increasing the amount of biogas, countries can become climate neutral when heating houses and generating electricity in a decentralized way.

Outstanding advantages

when centralized power production becomes decentralized. This calculator proves the advantages by calculating a house that consumes 5400 kWh electric power from a coal-fired power plant ( from 2.2 tons coal) and in addition to that 3 m3 of oil to heat the house. All this causes almost 15 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The same house driven by a Dulob combined heat and power , some solar cells and an air/water heat pump consumes one ton of natural gas per year and emits 3 tons of carbon dioxide. This is a CO2 reduction of 80% In both cases you get 5400 kWh of electric power and 27,000 kWh for heating and warm water. The amount of fossil fuel has gone down from 4.3 tons to 1 ton of natural gas.

Climate Neutral

On top of these advantages we also pave the road for climate neutral electric power and heat. This occurs with a few percent of biogas.

The most sensational advantage appears when all fuel is biogas. Then greenhouse gas effect will reverse. This is the new generation of greentech that outperforms wind, water and sun in its degree of environmental friendliness.

The most modern power plants can reach 40% efficiency but far too many power plants in the world reach 20% efficiency if you include the losses in the power grid. In year 2016, 80% of the energy in the world came from fossil fuels, 10% came from biofuel and 5% from nuclear power. Solar power and wind also generated 5% from this amount 18% became electricity and 82% was used for heating and transportation. The electric energy in the world came to 41% from coal, 22% from natural gas and 11% from nuclear power.

One third of the energy in coal or oil generates electric power

Two third is wasted and heats the environment.

In year 2038

the use of brown coal ends in Germany. However there is much discussion about ending it earlier due to the environmental impact.

Our calculator shows that coal power can be discontinued in the near future and Dulob CHP has the potential to offer lower energy costs due to higher efficiencies. On top of that the emissions of carbon dioxide can go down with up to 80%. On the sheet2 in the calculator everyone can follow every step in the calculation. Every possible scenario can be calculated.

If huge power plants are divided into thousands of small units

and are placed in the basement of each house, then the heat loss from the electric generation can heat the house and make warm water. In this way entire countries can make use of the two thirds of the energy that has so far been lost. This is the genious principle behind the combined heat and power, CHP.

The energy experts of governments expect the CHP technology to be a cornerstone in buildings of tomorrow. Dulob aims at long lifespan, high efficiency and a competitive price to make this technology available in the near future.

Governments have asked for CHPs in a decade or more.

Such a small power plant placed in each basement is called Combined Heat and Power = CHP

In Germany it is called .......... "nano Blockheiz Kraftwerk" and the process is called "Kraft Wärme Kopplung". The German government, Bundesregierung has a special website to support this technology..

The market is huge as soon as there are units available with high lifespan, high-efficiency at a competitive price. The present units on the market have obviously not met these criteria so far. Dulob intends to change this situation.

Still another improvement is within reach

if a CHP is combined with a heat pump.

Then the 2 kW electric power that the CHP generates can be transformed to further 10 kW heat on top of the 4 kW heat that the motor dissipates at the same time as it generates electricity. This can all be combined depending on what is needed.

Solar cells on the roof

can improve the economy considerably. On the wish list could also be an electric storage facility. Then the house can in principle be independent of the grid and it is possible to consume a higher peak power.

Entire countries can benefit from distributed storage capacity. It will be possible to store energy when wind power or solar power in a country generate maximal power. All this can be controlled over the Internet in such a way that the entire country automatically can ask for help in different situations from millions of house owners, either to store energy or to deliver to the grid.

Digesters

there are already tens of millions of digesters in the world. With this simple technology biologic waste is transformed to methane gas. Methane is 120 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as greenhouse gas . The positive environmental impact is considerable if you can prevent methane from reaching the atmosphere.

In the combustion methane is transformed to carbon dioxide and water and the greenhouse effect goes down with a factor 120. It should be very high on the wish list that every house is equipped with a digester or that every community has one. Waste is transferred to valuable soil and methane can give considerable contribution to electric power and heat through Dulob CHP.

The positive environmental effect is so huge that if one single CHP is driven by methane from the digester and 119 CHPs are driven by fossil fuel than the sum of these 120 units is climate neutral. If there is no digester the waste is decomposed slowly and emits all the methane directly to the atmosphere. By preventing that the gas reaches the atmosphere the corresponding high greenhouse effect is avoided.

A major problem is that the power grid

is expected to reach a degree of overload. A Dulob CHP in every basement solves the situation . Millions of house owners can sell electricity to the grid when country wide shortage occurs. As electricity is generated everywhere and consumed everywhere there will be less load on the grid.

There is risk of collapse of the grid in a near future when a large number of electric cars are charging. One CHP in every basement will help the situation. Millions of house owners can sell the electricity to the grid that electric cars need and simultaneously heat the house with exactly the heat that should otherwise be dissipated from the cooling system in the car.

An otto engine or diesel engine has a peak pressure between 70 and 150 bar at a peak temperature between 1500 and 2000 C.

The useful energy corresponds to the surface in the pressure - volume diagram.

The high temperature creates nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particles giving the engine manufacturers problems that are almost impossible to solve when efficiency must up and emissions must down.

Dulob has a completely new thermodynamic cycle addressing this paradox.

Dulobs engine has only 10% of the peak pressure in an otto engine and also lower peak temperature.

Only 7 bar peak pressure and 800C temperature.

In spite of this it is possible to calculate efficiency that compares with a diesel and this depends of the fact that the pressure volume diagram is divided into two surfaces instead of one single surface.

The useful energy corresponds to the two surfaces in the pressure volume diagram

This remarkable effect, we believe paves the road to the engines of tomorrow, can easily be checked and calculated with classical thermodynamics. This is expected to give the life expectency that is necessary in an engine that works day and night in every basement.

The low temperature makes it theoretically possible to apply flame free combustion. This gives the base for NOx below 1 ppm. This can be regarded as a completely emission free engine, and this is exactly what is expected from the engine of tomorrow.

Reversing the greenhouse effect

This PDF from German Government (Bundestag) shows on page 23 how biogas can reverse greenhouse effect when biogas is used in combination with combined heat and power (Minus 409 gCO2/kWh!) This is exactly what DULOB CHP can do as well. With the growing biogas production with Germany as front-runner, generation of electricity and heating of houses in combination with CHP can soon become climate neutral in entire countries. Also reversal of greenhouse effect is well within reach.
